When you visit or stay at The Cobham Clinic, you will find pleasant surroundings and a warm welcome from our friendly and efficient staff. We understand that some people feel apprehensive about visiting a hospital, which is why we do all we can to make you feel at home.
Preparing For Your Visit
We provide everything to make your stay comfortable, but you may wish to bring your own night attire, toiletries, slippers and a dressing gown. If you have forgotten any items, the staff will be happy to help you. We ask that if you are taking any medication, please bring it with you.
Please be aware that you should not drive yourself to the hospital if you are going to be having a general anaesthetic or sedation. It is recommended that you do not drive for 24 hours following the administration of these.
You will be asked to sign a registration payment form when you arrive and also if you are self-funding to make your payment. If you admission is covered by health insurance, please bring your policy details and authorisation with you. You must contact your insurance company prior to your admission to receive the authorisation to proceed with your treatment. If you need any help at all with this, our finance staff will be pleased to assist you.
We aim to make your stay as comfortable as possible. On arrival you will be met by our reception staff. They will ensure that all of your paperwork is complete before showing you through to the ward.
You will be taken to your room where you will be shown the facilities available to you. Each individual room is comfortably furnished and has its own direct dial telephone at the bedside. You will also find a flat screen television mounted conveniently on the wall with Freeview channels and some SKY channels available. Most of our ensuite bathrooms are wet rooms which make showering following surgery so much easier. We provide each bathroom with towels and complimentary toiletries. Our staff will be happy to answer any questions that you may have at this point. If you have friends or family with you they are welcome to accompany you to the room if you should wish.
A nurse will then come and introduce herself to you before commencing the admission process. She will ask you questions about your general health and will be able to tell you what to expect during your stay.
Your Consultant and Anaesthetist will usually come and visit you on the ward prior to your treatment taking place. Very occasionally this is not possible and they will meet you on arrival in theatres. Should you have any concerns which you would like to discuss with your Consultant or Anaesthetist please make your nurse aware.
Following your treatment you will be brought back to your room and your nurse will carry out regular observations. If you are in any discomfort or have any cause for concern please make your nurse aware either when she is attending to you or by calling her using your nurse call point.
If you wish your partner or relative may wait for you to return from theatre either making themselves comfortable in our waiting area or in your room.
Some consultants will come and visit you on your return to the ward. Others will not visit you until the next day. If for any reason your consultant is unable to visit you on the morning following your surgery he or she will usually ring the ward to check on your progress.
Your privacy will be respected at all times and your family and friends are welcome to visit whenever they wish. We have facilities in our reception area for them to help themselves to beverages free of charge during your stay.
If you require assistance at any time of day of night, nurse call points are provided in all rooms for your safety and continuing peace of mind.
Our team of staff are sensitive to your individual requirements and needs, and their friendly manner helps to establish a good relationship which is beneficial to your recovery.
